The Red Bulls made news yet again at the sports books since they brought in Mexico’s national squad captain Rafael Marquez.



When they signed France star Thierry Henry, New York got attention earlier this year. New York could maybe be a winning squad versus sportsbook soccer probabilities and should be a exciting squad to watch.

The Red Bulls is a founding participant of Major League Soccer, but has been through a variety of name alterations since the league’s beginnings in 1996. Since New York is not part of the playoff contest, the addition of Marquez is more focused on next year and getting fans than it is for this season. Marquez likely will play midfield for the New York Red Bulls. He is not a huge scoring risk but even at his age he’s likely a lot better than what New York had in the midfield. At least with the additions of Henry and Marquez they should be worth viewing, even though New York hasn’t played well for the most part this year. They might even pick up a few more victories on the way.

There is no question that the MLS is getting some attention at the sportsbook with the addition of players like Henry and Marquez. Henry and Marquez genuinely didn’t have a place in top European leagues, though, and that really should not overlooked. Barcelona released Marquez just a few days ago and they didn’t use Henry much last year. The MLS just doesn’t have as much talent as leagues like the Premier or La Liga and players who have big reputations but diminishing skills can still be successful in what is a reduced level of soccer in the MLS.
