There are those among the ranks of MMA fandom that do not enjoy the UFC’s attempts to become a genuinely worldwide brand and make inroads in the European market, particularly the UFC 122 odds event which will be put on in Oberhausen Germany on November 13th.



And it is not that these devotees are anti-European or anti German. It’s just that the lineup for this German smack down is less than ideal. As we saw last month with the UFC 120 event put on in London England, coordinators seem to fill the fighting lineup with home grown expertise (or at least European expertise) in an attempt to build a larger lover base in the huge Euro market which has thus far declined MMA as a sporting possibility.

The UFC 122 betting competition will offer 3 German fighters and several other European fighters. The main problem with this is that the German MMA scene is comparatively small and nearly none of German fighters in the UFC 122 odds contest are known beyond the borders of their towns or cities and particularly not to the majority of the UFC devotees. So although there are more Germans than typical on the card, they won’t be met with extra assistance from devotees.

The sport of MMA has been met with significant critique in the country by its press and authorities. It’s previously led to minors being forbidden from the 1st German UFC event, UFC 99, and this it year it is led to the sport being forbidden from being telecast completely. The Germans have identified the “extent of violence shown to be unacceptable” and so the event will be shown by tape delay on Spike TV here in the united states, but not at all in the country it is actually being put on in.

The fact that the Main Card headlining matchup in the UFC 122 betting competition features Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami in a competition in which the victor is not even certain a shot at the division championship says a whole lot about the expertise level of the contest in Oberhausen.

But that does not automatically mean poor news for the MMA devotees wants to play the UFC 122 odds. While these fighters may not be pretty recognized and never amount to much on the UFC fighting scene, their comparable anonymity presents plenty of betting possibility for the savvy devotees willing to do some homework and uncover a little more about these mysterious fighters.

Take for instance Pascal Krauss, a German welterweight who’s scheduled to match Englishman Mark Scanlon on the Preliminary card. He’s 6’1″, 170 lbs and he has never lost an MMA contest in his life. He has a ideal 9-0 record in MMA competition, 7 of the wins by submission. He could be next big thing in UFC!

What about Karlos Vemola, the Czech fighter nicknamed the “Terminator” with a 7-1 record, who will be seeking to make mincemeat of American Seth Petruzelli in the light heavyweight division.

There’s lots of comparatively mysterious expertise out there just waiting to be found and bet on by MMA devotees in the impending UFC 122 Main Event.
